DNS is an acronym for Domain Name system, which is used to allocate internet protocol address to a domain name. Every computer connected to the internet must have an IP address; this is represented in the form of numbers and dots e.g. 192.168.0.1. A DNS system with a domain server resolves this address to words that will be easy to remember.
With an IP address everything on the internet is organized. A DNS server can deliver the right information for as long as the IP address is included in the request made to them. Where there is no IP address, then there is no address to return the information requested. DNS server are categorized into two which are the public and the Private. However, using these public servers might result in problems such as cache poisoning, pharming and DNS amplification attacks.
Public DNS server are open and can easily be accessed by DNS Server Not Responding virtually any computer user. It is managed by volunteer engineers free of charge and they are commonly powered by FreeBSD servers which are protected by uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS). Users can find their IP by sending a query to Whois server or the DNS database using various DNS management tools like DNS lookup, DNS query and whois.
To send email or to just simply browse the web uses a DNS server. This process may not be obvious as it is a completely hidden part of the internet but extremely important too. Without this there could be a complete shutdown of the Internet. Each time a domain name is used by the one browsing the internet, the DNS server is instantly used to retrieve the information that is human readable and is translated to an IP address that is machine readable. These are behind the hood processes that take place each time we are browsing the internet.
